Our prayer is that you will find here a place to be encouraged and challenged in your walk with Jesus Christ. The weekly posts on this site are penned by women of UFC for their sisters at UFC. They are intended as a continuation of discussion begun at Bible study each week about what it looks like to walk with Christ today. Let us introduce ourselves…
Jasmine Timm (writer, teacher) is a Eugene-native who works part-time at UFC, serving in the women and children’s ministries. She is married to Tyler and enjoys hiking, camping, reading, writing, and cooking. She is currently attending Western Seminary as a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. In the future, Jasmine hopes to use her counseling career to serve the church by supporting staff members in crisis counseling as well as providing training on mental health issues. Jasmine is always looking for a new joke, recipe, or work out to try, so don’t hesitate to share one with her!
Phares Gilchrist (writer, teacher) grew up in the South, graduated from Auburn University, joined the staff of Cru, met and married Brett. They settled in Eugene 36 years ago, have a daughter, two sons, their three spouses, six grandsons, and another grandchild coming in November. She is more of a fan of non-fiction than fiction and loves when she gets to spend time with her grandkids.
Jamie Harms (writer, editor, teacher) grew up in Oregon and married her high school sweetheart. After getting married and living for five years in Baltimore, she now lives in Eugene with her husband and two sons. Besides the privilege of working with women at UFC to help encourage and equip them in their walks with Jesus, she enjoys a good cup of tea with a friend, propping her feet up with a book, cooking a delicious meal, spending time with her family, and taking walks in the beautiful Northwest.
Jaime Sherman (writer, editor) and her husband Andy are parents to six littles, whom they home educate and chauffeur all over three towns to make music, dance their hearts out, tackle obstacle courses, run cross country, and participate in groups and ministries at UFC. Jaime’s favorite pastime is to research topics and people, ask questions and listen long to others to better understand her Lord Jesus Christ, His world and His people. She enjoys writing devotionals and narratives, especially ones that make biblical accounts come alive. She edits and proofs copy for various projects, and she occasionally takes on layout projects, leads small groups, and speaks at women’s gatherings.
Kathleen Harwood (writer, teacher) and her husband Mike are recent transplants to the Pacific Northwest after 22 years living in North Carolina. Kathleen joined the women’s ministry team at UFC a year ago and loves encouraging, teaching, and interacting with the women through Bible study, retreats, and special events. For fun, Kathleen enjoys traveling to visit her son, reading mystery novels, and hiking the beautiful, non-humid Oregon trails.
Sarah Lloyd (copyeditor, writer) grew up reading and diagramming sentences for entertainment, homeschooled with her five siblings from kindergarten through high school. Her college years were spent studying science, running for the Oregon Ducks, and falling in love with her witty husband. Over the past ten years, she has taught at a small public classical school, admiring the great works of literature created throughout history. She enjoys inductive Bible study, running and hiking in Oregon’s beautiful wilderness, singing in a cappella harmony, and planning road trips to spend time with her ten nieces and nephews. Sarah has faithfully served in our children’s and women’s ministries over the years. She has recently moved to Texas and will be sorely missed.
Andi Hines (writer) is a graduate of George Fox Evangelical Seminary with a master’s degree in Spiritual Formation. She has served God where she’s been called in areas of prayer, teaching, and devotional writing. She has attended UFC for about two years and counts herself blessed to be a member of the UFC women of faith! Andi’s husband is now with the Lord, but our God has provided for all her needs, each and every time. She and her children have realized a deeper appreciation for “family.” Andi loves gardening, baking, and writing, but Bible study and rabbit trails are her favorite things.
Brianna Hines (writer, teacher) and her husband Lewis are Oregon natives and have four incredible kids. They moved to Eugene in 2017 when Lew joined the UFC family as worship pastor. Brianna is involved with the mom’s gathering, women’s ministry, and Sunday morning worship at UFC and loves all of the opportunities to get involved at this church. For fun, she enjoys gardening, building things (currently a tree house), reading, hosting, and Sabbath time at home with the family.
Joanna Sheppard (writer) is a native Oregonian, who is proud to call the unique community of Eugene “home.” She met her talented SoCal husband in Bible college and together they have three kids. Joanna loves classic literature, inductive Bible study, musical worship, and spending time with friends and family. She never tires of learning new things and meeting new people.
