Friday Feature: Linda Grimaud

Editor’s Note: Linda Grimaud, and her husband Robert, are finishing up a stint of service to the Loftstofan Baptistakakirkja Church in the capital city of Reykjavik, Iceland. Today she shares with us a bit about their time in Iceland and how we can be praying for them.

It has been my privilege for almost the past 20 years to be part of ministry in India and Africa. I first went to India in 2002 as my friend encouraged me to go with her and speak for several women’s gatherings. I first went to Africa with her in 2004, where once again we were part of a training team for pastors and their wives.

It’s been my joy to have the Holy Spirit use me to share His words of encouragement with His people and the lost. My favorite part of this work, which I say lightly, is becoming a good storyteller. Jesus was the greatest storyteller, and people understood His message. I see storytelling as a creative way to help people understand God’s Word and encouragement for their lives.

Linda’s service for Jesus has taken her from one extreme to another — from Africa to Iceland!

I never thought in my wildest dreams of becoming a missionary. As a child, I was frightened by the stories missionaries would share while on their home assignments. Don’t ever tell God what you don’t want to do. He had to groom me for a long time, but at just the right time, He called me. I’m thankful I grew up in a Christian home and had a spiritual beginning at a young age.

Now, we’re in Iceland, and we are full-time missionaries. Iceland needs the gospel. It is a very dark and complacent place. Also, the true believers here need encouragement. We’re here to be that encouragement.

It’s been my privilege to encourage the church women and become prayer partners with them. Also, I’m finding myself assisting with children’s ministry and hospitality. We have lunch together each week after church. I’m one of the meal planners. Then we are hosting dinners at our house and working on relationships with those in the church. Robert has had several opportunities to preach, and we’ve held a 4-week marriage class.

Please pray for me to be more willing to step out and engage with people. Pray that the Lord will make it very clear what He wants me to do as a “cheerleader” for this church. Pray that I will return to complete health and stay healthy. I was sick for four weeks with bronchitis and still have a cough.

I’m encouraged when I read Ephesians 4:15-16:

Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

It shows me the purpose for my life, to God be the glory!
