Pausing to Read and Listen

Editor’s Note: The passages of Scripture that we read and listen to today are Sabbath requirements and stories from the Old Testament. They give us a framework for the importance of Sabbath rest for the people of Israel and to our God. Don’t miss God’s heart to give this gift to His children as they learned to trust Him for their physical and spiritual needs.

Prayer: Dear God, I come before You ready to read and to listen to Your Word, but I am keenly aware of the distractions surrounding me. I know you are jealous for my affections, so I ask you, Lord, to go before me. Fight for me and protect our time together. May my heart be soft to Your words as You show me Your character and Your best for me in both work and rest. I love you, Lord.

Leviticus 25:1-22

Deuteronomy 15:1-18

Nehemiah 13:15-22

Jeremiah 34:12-17
