A Mother’s Day Prayer

Jamie Harms prays for the daughters and mothers of University Fellowship Church.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We humbly come before You and praise You that You are holy, powerful, faithful, and true. Thank you Lord that You are the giver of good gifts. Today we thank you for the gift of mothers and motherhood.  Thank you for the blessing of children, who make us mothers, as they bring us joy and stretch us in ways that make us rely on You. Please give each mother wisdom, courage, and creativity as she partners in raising these little ones to know You. May these children grow to become godly men and women after your own heart.

Father, I know that today is bittersweet for many of my sisters, too. I pray an extra blessing for those who are waiting to someday marry and start a family, for those who struggle or have struggled with infertility or loss, and for those with littles who are exhausted. I pray, Lord, for those finding they walk this journey with kids alone without a spouse and those who are giving their hearts to foster kiddos, who may not be in their home forever. And I pray for those who await the day their children turn their hearts or turn back their hearts to You, and for those who have lost their own mothers. Lord, we praise You that You are a God who sees every joy and hurt and pain. Thank you, Lord, that no matter how deep the hurt, that your love is deeper still and that nothing, nothing can separate us from that love. Father, we pray like in Isaiah that You would make something beautiful out of these ashes of this season, that You would give us the oil of gladness instead of mourning and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of heaviness and despair as You make us into oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of your splendor. We praise you that because of your great love we are not consumed, for your compassions never fail. They are new every morning, great is your faithfulness.

Lord, we confess that we are weary and can so easily feel isolated especially during this season, during this pandemic. We often believe the lies of the enemy that we are not good enough, but please remind us over and over, Father, that You are always with us, that You are mighty to save, that You take delight in us as You have made us complete and whole in You, that You comfort us with your love in all the seasons of life, and that You rejoice over us with singing because we are your children, wholly and dearly loved.

We love you Father.

Amen.
