Hello, Sweet Sisters of UFC,
Today I’m sending you a personal invitation to attend the UFC Women’s fall study in the Old Testament book of Joshua, which begins Thursday, Oct. 10. I confidently believe that this study will touch you just where you are in life whether you have yet to place your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ or you have been walking by faith for many decades of your life.
Our own Kathleen Harwood invested long hours this summer to study for and then write this Bible study, and a sneak peak at the material has already encouraged and challenged me in ways I might have once wrongly assumed could only come from New Testament books of the Bible. Not so with this study, where Kathleen points us to a Joshua who did far more than walk around the city of Jericho with thousands of Israelites. We see a God who neither leaves nor abandons His beloved, who meets each of us in the mundane rhythm of daily life and who is working out a beautiful plan that is sometimes hard to understand in the messiness of life — and is rarely as dramatic as the toppling of city walls.
The Joshua study will include six weeks of homework broken down into four days each week, and we will meet as a group either at the Barn (Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.) or at Willamette Bible Chapel (Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.) seven times over a nine-week stretch from Oct. 10 through Dec. 5 (no meeting on Oct. 31 or Nov. 28). For those of you joining us for the morning study, you will be served coffee, tea, and pastries. For those of you coming from work or children’s activities, a free dinner will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m., and we strongly encourage you to come for this special time of fellowship.
During Thursday’s UFC Family Night — which is for all stages and ages in our church family — Craig MacDonald will offer his Continuing Ed series for adults, while children (infant through 5th grade) will be learning from the book of Joshua in Kids Club. Middle school students will be shuttled over to the Barn for the evening study time, or you can drop them off at the Barn before joining us at 6:30 p.m. For the morning study time, Kids Club will be offered for nursery through 5th grade.
The UFC Women’s blog team invites you to spend a little time each week at ufcwomen.blog, where you can listen to the book of Joshua read aloud and read reflection posts from the talented writers who are joining me on this online adventure — Jasmine Timm, Jamie Harms, Phares Gilchrist and Kathleen Harwood. We hope you’ll follow the link below to read a bit more about each one of us.
In addition to these blog resources, I am so excited to announce that we’re starting up a Q & A, where you can submit your questions about the Bible, current events, or other things that have you wrestling with truth. We just might choose one of your questions (posted without your name) to answer on the blog.
We want to prepare your place at this study, so please click here to sign up for the Joshua study.
I am looking forward to seeing you on the 10th!
Love in Christ,
Jaime Sherman
